Vedic Botanicals tackles their Plastic Footprint

Vedic Botanicals tackles their Plastic Footprint

Hear Ye Hear Ye! It is with overwhelming pride and joy that Vedic Botanicals would like to announce: We have partnered with rePurpose Global, a world-leader in tackling humanity’s plastic problem. We’ve joined their Impact Guarantee Program, and thus henceforth the sale of every product from our shelves will directly result the removal of a whole pound of plastic from landfill.

Why did we decide to join the Impact Guarantee Program? : We built VB to be as sustainable and eco-friendly as possible; you see it in our garden-compostable labels and the fact that our products are produced with solar power. As much as we have tried to keep our products plastic-free, it’s a fact that many of the caps on our bottles are plastic or contain plastic components. Joining the Impact Guarantee Program means that we are removing more plastic from the waste cycle than we are putting into the cycle.

How are we doing this/ How are we verifying this? :  rePurpose Global is the world’s leading plastic action platform, offering solutions to help people and companies calculate, reduce, and offset their plastic footprint. Here’s how it worked: first we calculated our plastic footprint- weighing each piece of plastic, or item that contains plastic components, and then multiplying that by the number of these items sold. We also took inventory of any plastic that came through our doors- like shipping packaging. Then, we determined our impact level: VB has made the decision to join rePurpose Global’s Impact Guarantee Program, ensuring that every purchase funds the removal of an entire pound of plastic.

What’s the impact? : Each company participating in rePurpose Global’s Impact Guarantee Program can choose a specific long-term sustainability initiative to support. Vedic chose to support Project Pavitra Parvat in Dehradun, India- a city at the foothills of the Himalayas- the project is centered around preserving and maintain the natural beauty of the mountains and keeping the sources of waterways clean. Project Pavitra Parvat enables the recovery and processing of low-value, single-use plastic waste such as multi-laminate plastic (MLP) chip bags and food wrappers. This is facilitated through a collaboration with local waste management pioneer Waste Warriors India and directly catalyzes the ethical collection and permanent disposal of hazardous MLP waste. The plastic is burned in kilns (allows for greater control and no gaseous release) and the powder is then mixed into concrete for housing projects. Learn more about Project Pavitra Parvat here.

We’re already making a difference: We officially joined rePurpose Global’s Impact Guarantee Program on March 2nd 2022, but we calculated our plastic footprint for the 2nd half of 2021 contributing a portion of every product sold from July-Dec 2022 to Project Pavitra Parvat. This powered the removal of several hundred pounds of plastic from landfills and the oceans. What better way to kick-off 2022?
